It would have been really nice to have PTGui pick up the frontend UI engineers for Autopano and create the best of both. I also do linear panoramas (along with shift lens panos), which was pushing both Autopano and PTGui. I do milky way stitching and compositing - which pushes the technical envelope in a lot of different ways. It has matured quite a bit, but PhotoShop with some add in tools is still the gold standard. I wanted to use AP for everything and right out of the box it was not up to the task. I also have Affinity Photo - I was one of the beta users, and have somewhat fallen off the wagon. I do think that PTGui probably has perhaps the best underlying technology (especially their built-in masking capability) - but it's user interface could use some (well a lot of) work. I've used, I think all the various trials of most (if not all) the stitchers - and they all had their own small problems for my particular set of use cases.
